About the Fatima H. Shousher Educational Fund
In 2014, the Shousher family created the Fatima H. Shousher Educational Fund to honor Fatima Shousher—a trailblazing educator, advocate, and beacon of inspiration for students with low vision or blindness in Northwest Ohio. Born with a vision impairment and diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa as a teenager, Fatima refused to let vision loss define her future. She dedicated her life to teaching at Toledo Public Schools, spending most of her career as a valued resource at Rogers High School, where she tirelessly supported students with severe visual impairments.
That same spirit of perseverance and compassion lives on through this Fund, which awards an annual $500 scholarship to outstanding college students (ages 18–30) who are blind or visually impaired, reside in Northwest Ohio, maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, and are enrolled in higher education. The impact of this modest award is profound: it offers financial relief, academic encouragement, and public recognition of students working past barriers to pursue their dreams.
